Assam Chief Minister Shri. Himanta Biswa Sarma ji, who has been advocating the two-child policy, faced criticism after he appealed to immigrant Muslims in the state to adopt the new norm to control the population. He had blamed the immigrant Muslim community for having large families which in turn drawing sharp criticism from various quarters, including the AIUDF having a strong base in the community.

According to the report, Sarma Ji also criticized the Opposition for targeting the size of his parents’ family. Since Sarma ji belongs to a family of five brothers.

He commented that the opposition is saying these strange things and pushing us back to the 70s because there is no point in talking about what our parents did or other people did in the 1970s.

He asserts that to end poverty, Muslim women need to be educated and the population needs to be controlled. Because poverty will never be reduced unless we control our population.
