Captain Amar Jeet Kumar, who fought in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, has written to the Chief of the Army Staff asking to be taken back into service. He is 75 years old but says he is fit, ready, and willing to return to the battlefield if the country needs him.

In his letter to General Upendra Dwivedi, he doesn’t ask for money or rank. He doesn’t want praise. He just wants to serve again. He says if war breaks out with Pakistan, this one could be a "fight to the finish"and he wants to stand with his fellow soldiers.

Captain Kumar served in 14 Punjab (Nabha Akal) and 21 Punjab (Chanderkala). He was part of the Battle of Garibpur on November 21, 1971. That battle happened just before the full-scale war began and was a key win for India. He says being part of that victory was a matter of pride but the call of duty never really left him.

He wrote, A soldier never truly retires. Not even in death. You can take a man out of the Army but you can’t take the Army out of the man.

He lives in Greater Mohali now. But when he sees the news and hears talk of another war, something inside him won’t sit still. He says, I may be 75 but I’m not weak. I’m strong and I’m ready.

He also says he’s not the only one. Many other veterans like him are willing to return to duty if needed. He says they still have the skills and the heart for service. He believes the Army will never run out of manpower if it turns to its veterans.

His offer is simple. No salary. No conditions. He’ll go where he’s needed. Front line, training, logistics any role that helps the mission.

In a world where most people his age are retired and relaxing, Captain Kumar still feels the weight of duty. He’s not asking for a parade or a medal. He’s just asking for a place to stand and serve. And that says everything.
