In a significant boost to India’s undersea warfare capabilities the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy have successfully conducted a combat firing trial with reduced explosives of the indigenously developed Multi-Influence Ground Mine (MIGM). This landmark event marks a major step forward in India's quest for self-reliance in advanced naval defence technology.
Developed by the Naval Science & Technological Laboratory (NSTL) Visakhapatnam in collaboration with High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL) Pune and Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL) Chandigarh the MIGM is designed to effectively counter modern stealth submarines and surface ships. The mine integrates multiple sensor technologies to detect and neutralize underwater threats with precision.
The production of this sophisticated underwater weapon is being undertaken by Bharat Dynamics Limited Visakhapatnam and Apollo Microsystems Limited Hyderabad showcasing a seamless synergy between DRDO the Indian Navy and Indian industry partners.
Complimenting the successful trial Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh lauded the collaborative achievement of DRDO the Indian Navy and industry stakeholders.The system will further enhance the undersea warfare capabilities of the Indian Navy he noted reinforcing the government’s commitment to Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance) in defence manufacturing.
Echoing similar sentiments Dr Samir V Kamat Secretary Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO declared With this validation trial the system is now ready for induction into the Indian Navy.
