In a solemn moment that pierced hearts across distances, the mortal remains of Naga sister Allen were flown from Delhi to Dimapur for her final rites made possible through Helping Hands’ Akhri Ahuti scheme. The moment symbolized not only a farewell but a painful reminder of a growing crisis that shadows the youth of the Northeast in metropolitan cities.

Allen’s tragic death is not an isolated incident. Increasingly, young men and women from the Northeast migrate to cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, and Mumbai in search of employment most landing in unorganized private sectors, working for meager wages under exploitative conditions. What they often find are not opportunities, but despair, loneliness, and, at times, fatal circumstances.

In Allen’s case, her dreams were cut short too soon. Helping Hands, with the compassionate support of Pastor Imkong from Gurgaon, Spuner officials, and tireless volunteers Ajay Subba and Naresh Kumar, ensured that she was not abandoned in a heartless city. Her body was sent home with dignity, so she could rest among her loved ones and be remembered in peace.

This act, though small in the grand scheme, reflects the soul of our Akhri Ahuti mission ensuring no Northeastern youth is denied the dignity of a final goodbye in their homeland. But it also compels us to confront the deeper rot: Why are so many of our youth leaving their verdant homes for the cold pavements of urban India?

It is a silent crisis. Thousands migrate with hope in their hearts only to find themselves in toxic work environments, racially targeted, culturally alienated, and emotionally broken. Suicides and unexplained deaths are rising echoes of anguish from voices that are never heard by the systems in place.

We can only hope and pray for a day when the Northeast thrives with opportunities when our youth will no longer be forced to meander aimlessly into indifferent cities, but instead find fulfillment in their own land, culture, and community.

Helping Hands will continue to support our brothers and sisters, not just in death but in life. Justice for Allen will be pursued with unwavering commitment, and her story will serve as a clarion call to protect the vulnerable among us.(Source: Helping Hands)
